TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE for my short play Trite and True in the Downtown Urban Arts Festival at Theatre Row Off-Broadway!

Two strangers. One subway station. Not just another New York City cliché.

A quirky comedy on a double bill with Searching for Abuelo by Gretchen Suarez-Peña, Trite and True is part of DUAF’s 22nd season featuring New York City premieres by two-time Tony winner Savion Glover, Tony nominee reg e gaines, and new theatrical work by 16 of the best new and emerging playwrights from across the country.

Just released: Beautiful comic-book superhero-themed artwork celebrating the 2024 Downtown Urban Arts Festival, produced by DUAF’s Graphic Designer Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, known for his superhero series La Borinqueña. My short play Trite and True will be featured along with Gretchen Suarez-Peña’s play Searching for Abuelo on June 13.

This Saturday, May 18, I will have three different plays produced in three different cities on the same day.

A Call to Conscience Interactive Theater for Social Change and Bread & Roses Missouri is producing my short play The Immaculate Contraception with five other Plays About Public Health in the second half of their Social Justice Shorts Play Festival at the Greenfinch Theater and Dive in St. Louis. Two performances:

B3 Theater of Phoenix is producing my short play All Sales Final with nine other plays in its 7th Festival of Shorts at Scottsdale Neighborhood Arts Place (SNAP) in Scottsdale, Arizona. Six performances:

The St. Louis Actors’ Studio has selected my short play Trite and True from hundreds of scripts as a semifinalist in the LaBute New Theater Festival.

The Vidalia Theatre Company of Atlanta will be producing my short play All Sales Final as part of its Summer Harvest 2024 festival in June.

Playwright Jane M. Lee lives and writes in New York City.  Her work has been performed across the United States and in Canada, Hong Kong, and London.  Her short play Family Emergency was praised for “fus[ing] the hostility of a Jerry Springer program with the warmth and irony of an O. Henry story.”  She was a semifinalist for Chisa Hutchinson’s Signpost Fellowship for writers of color.  Her play Closet Space won the College of Charleston’s Todd McNerney National Playwriting Award.
